With over 120 national and international speakers, the Sustainable Building Congress, part of the 23rd edition of the Construmat exhibition by Fira de Barcelona, will showcase its most advanced solutions for a more sustainable construction.
Prestigious architects and builders will explain the details of flagship projects they have underway and discuss the major challenges facing the sector.
Given that construction is one of the main emitters of CO2 into the atmosphere and makes intensive use of natural resources and raw materials, the sector is compelled to rethink its activities to minimize its environmental impact.
Thus, at the Sustainable Building Congress, over 120 national and international speakers will present real sustainable construction projects during sessions held in two auditoriums set up in Hall 2 of the Gran Via venue, home to the exhibition.
This initiative will feature projects such as the new eco-district in Mercedes, on the former site of the Mercedes-Benz factory in Barcelona; the remodeling of urban space between the Royal Palace and the Plaza de España in Madrid; or the new office headquarters of the multinational technology and equipment company Bosch in Casablanca, Morocco. These are just a few of the projects that will be showcased at the congress by the teams that developed them.
More respectful praxis
Architects like French architect Emmanuelle Patte, specializing in bioclimatic architecture; Spanish architect Sonia Hernández-Montaño Bou, founder of Arquitectura Sana studio; Moroccan architect Jaafar Sijelmassi, founder of Sijelamssi & Partners; Dubai-based architect Albert Fakhoury, president of the International Accreditation Council for Architecture and Design (CIAAD); or Jorge Arditi, president of the Mexico Region of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), will be among the experts providing their insights into a more respectful architectural praxis closely connected to its natural surroundings.
Sustainability will be the core theme of the congress, articulating a range of topics and practical cases on decarbonization, urban regeneration, energy rehabilitation, or new materials for the circular economy. New construction methods, industrialization, and digital technologies (BIM, Digital Twin, IoT, AI) will also be discussed as key enablers of the sector's paradigm shift towards sustainable innovation and improving environmental impact.
The Sustainable Building Congress is one of the activities of the 23rd edition of Construmat, the construction exhibition by Fira de Barcelona, which will bring together, from May 21st to 23rd, more than 300 direct and indirect exhibitors and 600 brands, with a 50% increase in its commercial area, featuring leading companies from all segments and the most representative associations and entities in the construction industry in our country.
Alongside the Sustainable Building Congress, PropCon-Hub, an innovation area for startups with an investment forum; a space for workshops and practical sessions; a wooden construction area; a new edition of the prestigious Construmat Awards, curated by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation; and the presence of Morocco as the guest country complete the extensive offer of Construmat 2024.
