The Fira de Barcelona construction show has awarded the Construmat 2024 Awards to the projects in the sector that have stood out the most for their commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The prestigious recognitions, curated by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, awarded the first prize to the project of 85 social housing units built in wood in Cornellà (Barcelona), while the Collegium Accademicum student residence in Heidelberg, Germany, received the audience award.

In a ceremony held during the 23rd edition of Construmat, which takes place until tomorrow at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, the award was given to the Peris+Toral arquitectes studio for its five-story wooden structure building with 85 housing units organized around a community courtyard that acts as a small plaza for the neighbors.

Built on the site of the iconic Pisa cinema in Cornellà de Llobregat, the building designed by was commissioned by the Metropolitan Institute for Land Promotion and Property Management (IMPSOL) of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, and constructed by Vías y Construcciones, optimizing the laminated wood from EGOIN Wood Group to the maximum.

Meanwhile, the audience award went to the Collegium Accademicum student residence in the German town of Heidelberg. The project by Drexler Guinand Jauslin Architects is a wooden construction with a large 140 kWh photovoltaic installation on the roof, making it stand out for its high recycling potential and CO2 savings.

Additionally, two mentions were awarded. The first went to the community production center Las Tejedoras in Guayaquil (Ecuador) while the second was for Le Magasin Électrique in Arles (France).

The 23rd edition of Construmat brings together more than 310 companies and 600 brands from the construction ecosystem, focusing on sustainable and industrialized construction and establishing itself as the most representative and transversal event in the sector in Spain.
